ESB International - ESBI and ESB
ESB International is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), Ireland's government-owned, vertically integrated electricity utility and a leading player in the competitive Irish energy sector.
We are part of ESB's non-regulated businesses and operate across a wide area of the energy industry.
ESB is the leading Irish energy company investing in the economy, the community and the environment.
Foundations of ESB
The Electricity Supply Board Act was passed in 1927 to set up the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), a corporate body to control and develop Ireland's electricity network.
At this time, more than 300 different suppliers were concerned with generating and supplying electricity in different parts of the country, including 16 local authorities and five major companies.
The gradual transfer of responsibilities to the national body required both a range of engineering and administrative skills. The development of these skills has been an important factor in the success of the ESB.
