ESB International - Women in Engineering

ESB International is committed to attracting, retaining, and advancing the women who work with us.

Female Networking Events

These events create a sense of community and enable colleagues to share ambitions and achievements in informal settings.

Women in Engineering Programme

Each November, we run a week-long education programme to give groups of female students an opportunity to see what life is like for women working as engineers, particularly in ESBI.

The programme was introduced by ESB International's Learning and Development Team in 2007.

Objective of programme

The programme aims to encourage female students to consider engineering as an option for their future careers. Over time, the programme has proven to play a vital role in helping female students decide to study engineering at third level.

Who can apply?

There are ten places available on the programme. It is open to female transition year students from schools throughout Dublin. Each student must have an interest in maths and/or science and perhaps already be considering engineering as a future career.

What the programme involves

The programme is a mix of presentations and activities and a sample of some of the 2009 events and presentations are listed below:

  • What engineering really means
  • An introduction to how electricity is made
  • Where are ESBI working in the world today?
  • Learn how energy is traded
  • Presentations on new energy projects such as Carbon Solutions, Electric Cars, Cúl Green and other Sustainability Programmes
  • Meet and greet our female engineers
  • Tour of Dublin Bay Power Plant
